I came across a neat site that does a very good job of converting regular pictures into FavIcons. FavIcons From Pics is one of the services from HTML-Kit.
In addition to generating a FavIcon from the uploaded image file, it also provides a nice ZIP download package with your new FavIcon and an informative ReadMe file. Also the web page has links to diagnostic tools that will examine your web site and tell what, if anything, is wrong.
I used the FavIcons from Pics service to change the FavIcons on this blog as well as my other web sites :-
The old FavIcon was the HostMonster default :-
