SMS SPAM Manager

I receive a ton of SPAM via SMS. It reached a stage where I cringed whenever I heard the new message tone play. I had to clean up my SMS Inbox on daily, deleting anything between 10 to 20 SPAM message every day.

I finally decided to do something about it. A Google search threw up a couple of possibilities and I finally selected SMS SPAM Manager by Melon Mobile. I use a Sony Ericsson P1i running Symbian UIQ3.

Ah! Life is sweet again!

I use a “Black List” of keywords that are matched against incoming SMS and the offending message is captured by the SPAM Manager if it finds a match. There are other ways of filtering messages too. The software is capable of auto loading at phone start up and can be run as a system application. I can view the captured SPAM and “Restore” any message that I want to retain. The SPAM manager then pushes it to the regular SMS Inbox as an incoming message.

The SPAM Manager silently captures offending SMS and I am at peace at last

SMS Spam – Vimal Stocks – Beware

A few months ago I noticed a large increase in SMS Spam. I am not a SMS fan and use it only to communicate with near and dear ones when a phone call is not required or not possible. So at most a few SMSes a week or on hectic days about 3 or 4 messages. Then I started seeing 12 or more SMS messages waiting for me daily! And all of them SPAM! Ranging from Life Insurance, Credit Cards, Ringtone Downloads, useless Cricket News, to Stock Tips!

One day I noticed SMSes from somebody or something calling itself Vimal Stocks. A veritable flood of useless messages. At first I was very irritated and started selecting the messages for mass deletion. But something stopped me and I decided to take a look before deleting. After reading a few I decided to capture the messages and post them here. Unfortunately I forgot all about the screen captures and the images languished on my phone for 3 months I found them last weekend when I changed the flash card and decided to post them anyway. Better late than never.

Note the tall claims made by this entity. Earn 30K in the month of Nov by investing only 10K! 100% return. I hope none of my readers were taken in.

Any idea who these guys are? This has the look of a prime time rip-off. I haven’t heard of any scams featuring this entity yet but that might just mean that they have taken in some poor souls and are squeezing them dry…
