Google Chrome – Memory Usage
This morning I made Google Chrome my default browser at the expense of FireFox. There is one thing I don't like - the placement of the Tab bar. It is at the top of the window, where the window's title bar is. It prefer it in the default position under all the toolbars. Anyway, while I was following around with the tab bar, I realized that you can click a Tab and pull it away, forming a new Browser Window! Cool.
After that I looked for the menu system and found two buttons on the extreme right after the address field, the "one field for all". The first button pulls down a menu with the traditional File, Edit & View related menu items. Towards the bottom is Developer menu. This contains 4 menu items, View Source, Debug JavaScript, JavaScript Console & Task Manager.

The last one intrigued me and I clicked on it to get this:

This little dialog box is great! And guess what? The "Stats for Nerds" link takes you to a special page "about:memory". I will let the screen shot speak for itself!
I still had FireFox running and just had to open the same set of page in it
See the results here:
I like it!
At this time I have one thumbs down. Google Chrome uses the Internet Explorer proxy settings. Bad. I use the SwitchProxy (see the SwitchProxy Developer's web site)add on for FireFox to control my proxy settings independently of IE. This allows me to quickly change between proxy settings at work & home, plus allowing me to define other proxy settings for when I am using a custom proxy server to say record performance test scripts using Apache JMeter.

So far so good. More to follow...
Google Chrome – First Impressions
The download was fast. Installation was easy. I had one hick up. I had FireFox running. Of course! The Google Chrome installer politely informed me that it could not import settings from FireFox as long as it was running.
Google Chrome copied my bookmarks from FireFox, recognizing my Bookmark toolbar shortcuts and making them available as soon as the browser started. The interface is clean and uncluttered.
Then I got my first surprise. I started typing the address of this blog and .. well see for yourself!
Finally, this blog looks exactly the same in Google Chrome as it does in FireFox!
So far it looks great! I think I will use it as my main browser for a few days at least.
Google Chrome – New Open Source Web browser from Google!
Google relased the Beta version of it's new Open Source web Browser, Google Chrome. The open source project behind Google Chrome is known as Chromium. The Microsoft Windows version was released on Sept 2, 2008. Mac & Linux versions are still under development and will be released sometime in the future.
I am downloading my copy as I type this. The web site claims Google Chrome will import my FireFox settings. Lets see it Google will be able to offer me more than what I get with FireFox already.

Will write about the browser after I have played with it a bit.
